Riding - June 18, 2007
Got off of work one day and decided I wanted to head out and enjoy some scenery west of my house about 10 miles in a trail system called Bloomington Hills, which rifts into a mountain range that lines the Utah-Nevada border. Travelling to Nevada and through these mountain ranges is easily done even by truck, and worth giving a shot with a quad and some extra gas (good camping spots out there, far from any civilization).
However I just did some of the streamlined rock trails that end in beautiful overlooks of rocky cliffs and canyons. Viewing to the East you can see the Hurricane Mesa/Sand Hollow Sand Dunes, Zion Canyon and other assorted landmarks.
I hadn't really ridden the 250x hard in a few years so I was skeptical that it would run well, but everything went without a hitch. It's not a powerful machine but it's fun to squirt around the trails and crawl over rocks with. I parked the truck at the base of the trail system and basically did each trail from top up, with a little bit of haphazard offtrail crawling just for fun [see the pictures with the barrel cactus].
It was mid-day, about 2 o'clock when I got there, so it was well above 100 degrees. No matter, just took off my shirt, threw on the iPod and down about six water bottles and a sports drink and I was off for the day, was out there until about 4. Got some nice sun... need to do more of these.
The pictures were taken with my camera phone, so the quality is not great. I'll see if I can remember to bring my digital camera next time...
